Two Roads Charter is a comprehensive charter school located in Arvada, Colorado, approximately 20 miles northwest of Denver. It is one of _ charter schools in the Jefferson County R-1 School District.
The genesis of Two Roads Charter School arose out of an existing Jefferson County School District program. Founded in 2000, the Home Option Program (H.O.P.E.) was crafted to serve the distinctive needs and diverse perspectives of home schooling students and their families. It offered small but academically rigorous classes in a community characterized by tolerance, mutual respect and a clear understanding of the possibilities and limitations of the relationship between a publicly-funded support program and a home based education. From a beginning of only a hundred or so students, the Home Option Program has grown and flourished, and today this vibrant program serves over four hundred students in two locations.
This proven record of success has resulted in a recognized need for expansion and has led directly to the proposal of Two Roads CharterSchool. Over the past eight years, many junior and senior high H.O.P.E. students have participated in H.O.P.E.'s concurrent high school/college program. The experience provided students with a meaningful start to attaining broader postsecondary goals. Meanwhile, the Home Option Program built excellent relations with local community colleges. It is this history, and these relationships, that form the educational foundation upon which rests the philosophy and practice of enabling the students of Two Roads to successfully and seamlessly transition from high school to college.
Over the past decade, the Home Option Program has consistently ended each school year with a balanced budget. Through careful fiscal responsibility and management, H.O.P.E. has accumulated the funds necessary for facility improvements and program growth. These best practices and discipline will be adopted by Two Roads High School, furnishing the new school with the seeds of a sound financial start.
Understandably, the Home Option Program has benefited from strong and consistent involvement of its parents, families and staff. Home schooling parents are by definition thoroughly engaged in all aspects of the education of their students; H.O.P.E. families routinely volunteer 40 hours a year in such positions as classroom aide, front desk support, building maintenance, managing school functions and more. It is expected that parents of Two Roads students will exercise a similar level of interest and commitment.
Concurrent Enrollment is a program through which students earn college credit for courses taken during high school. Students enroll at auniversity or community college to attain high school and/or college credit for these courses
