
Board of Directors
The Role of the Board: Two Roads Charter School is the responsibility of its Governing Board of Directors, the purpose of which is to:

Provide support to and oversight of school function and administration

Create and set policies that support the school’s Vision and Mission

Oversee and ensure the school’s financial health and viability
-
Serve as liaison between the school and the larger community
The Board is obligated to act in a manner that sustains and supports both our traditionally-educated and home-educated students. It is not the responsibility of the board to manage the day-to-day operation of the school.
Meetings: For 2012-13, the Board meets the fourth Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Arvada campus. The public is welcome to attend and the Board adheres to the policies outlined in the Colorado Sunshine Law. Individuals interested in speaking to the Board are invited to contact a Board member at least a week beforehand or sign up the day of the meeting. Notices of Board meetings, minutes, agendas, additional meetings, sign-up to speak, etc. are posted on the bulletin board in the Arvada campus reception area. Board documents – including approved minutes, agendas, the charter, bylaws and handbook – may be downloaded from the website or checked out from the school.

A parent/legal guardian of a traditionally-educated, TRCS student(s) enrolled full-time

A parent/legal guardian of a home educated TRCS student(s) enrolled at the Arvada campus,

A parent/legal guardian of a home educated TRCS student(s) enrolled at the Littleton campus,

A non-parent/non-employee community member

A parent/legal guardian of a traditionally-educated, TRCS student(s) enrolled full-time OR a non-parent/non-employee community member
-
One teacher/non-administrative staff member
Directors are elected to three-year terms by the school community and volunteer their rich variety of talents, skills and expertise to the benefit of the school, its students, families, staff and administration. Members of the Board are expected to demonstrate a strong belief in the concept of school choice, including the right to home school.

Parent of a traditionally-educated TRCS student enrolled full-time

Mrs. Eddy has been doing financial planning for individuals and small business for the past 14 years. She is also the owner of Dream Dinners (a meal preparation franchise) in Wheat Ridge, CO. She strongly supports the philosophy of HOPE. & TRCS, which includes the strong sense of community among the student body, parents and staff. She would like to continue to build on the foundation that has made the school successful, so it can continue to thrive.
Barb Hanson, Secretary

Mrs. Hanson brings a wealth of business experience acquired from her work in property management. In addition to being a long-time home schooling parent, Mrs. Hanson holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and enjoys increasing her own education through reading and travel.
Amy Horton, Liaison to the School Accountability Committee

A teacher for 15 years, Mrs. Horton has taught at H.O.P.E. and TRHS for the past 8 years. Currently she teaches marine biology, chemistry, earth science and physical science. Mrs. Horton has always found participation in school leadership and governance very rewarding. It allows her to use her master’s degree in leadership. Mrs. Horton’s three children attend VarnArsdale Elementary. She and her husband love to run, ski, work out and do just about anything in the mountains.
Rhonda Norman, Chairperson

In addition to home schooling her three children, Ms. Norman teaches social studies and has assisted the school in the areas of charter and grant writing as well as developing the leadership and accountability organizations of the school. Ms. Norman has a B.A. in International Affairs and a wide and abiding interest in the dynamic processes of learning, teaching and bridging the gap between the classroom and the real world.
Barb Moritzky, Associate-Chair

Community member; parent of former H.O.P.E. students

Mrs. Moritzky’s children graduated from H.O.P.E. In addition, Mrs. Moritzky was an Administrator of the Solid Rock Home School program in two locations. She holds a Master's in Social Work and a Certificate of Management. She has served on several other non-profit boards or advisory committees over the past 10 years and is currently the manager of a small company that invests and manages residential multi-housing complexes. Through her board and work experience, she has developed marketing, networking and management skills. My cell phone number is 303-885-7230.

Subcommittees to the Board: The Board relies on the efforts of several parent-volunteer subcommittees for expertise and information. These include:

School Accountability Committee – This group’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the school adheres to its Mission and Vision. The SAC conducts staff and parent surveys, recommends spending and programmatic priorities and assists the school administration in developing and implementing the Unified Improvement Plan.

Financial Committee – closely oversees the management of the school’s financial matters and informs the Board of the school’s current and ongoing fiscal viability.

Family Forum – advocates on behalf of home schooling and traditionally-schooling parents and families. The Forum handles some school fundraising efforts, coordinates new family mentoring and generally seeks to provide TRCS and H.O.P.E. families with a means to communicate their needs and desires to the Administration and Board.

TRCS Foundation– seeks out and secures funds from a wide variety of sources, including grants, gift campaigns, corporate sponsorships and special events.
